Google Will Read Danger of Heart Attack in Eyes
New Delhi, Feb 21: Google will soon be able to find out the danger of heart attack and heart failure by scanning the retina of patient’s eyes. Scientists have found a way to use artificial intelligence to analyse the danger of heart diseases by examining the eyes.
Google’s scientists along with its technical partner Verily have together found the method to do this. With this, doctors will be able to start their treatment before a patient gets a heart attack. This will save valuable time.
A team of scientists analysed data of three lakh patients to find out that this method could even detect whether a person is a smoker or not.
The study was published in the Nature Biomedical Engineering journal. The study said that the algorithm can predict cardiovascular event like a heart attack within five years by taking a photo of patient’s retina.
“Using deep learning algorithms trained on data from 284,335 patients, we were able to predict cardiovascular risk factors from retinal images with surprisingly high accuracy for patients from two independent datasets of 12,026 and 999 patients,” Lily Peng from the Google Brain Team wrote in a blog post.
“Our algorithm used the entire image to quantify the association between the image and the risk of heart attack or stroke,” she said.
