Google pulled up by CCI over unfair business practice; report sought within 60 days

A complaint has been launched against Google by the Competition Commission of India. A prima facie violation of the Competition Act has been claimed by the CCI, and a report has been sought within 60 days. The sources in the CCI have stated that Google has been found violating the act.

CCI has ordered a detailed probe against Google Pay for alleged unfair business practices. The position of Google Pay was also misused, states the sources. The commission is of the view that the apps facilitating UPI is a distinct relevant market. Further, the commission has also added that the conduct of Google amounts to the imposition of unfair and discriminatory conditions, denial of market access for competing apps of Google.
