Google Pay now allows people to book and cancel IRCTC train tickets
Google Pay, previously known as Android Pay, was launched back in September 2015. It is a digital wallet app. Slowly but steadily Google is adding more and niftier features to Google Pay. On Tuesday Google India announced that from now on people will be able to book and cancel IRCTC train tickets directly from Google Pay app.
"As India continues to embrace digital payments on Unified Payment Interface, Google India today announced train ticket bookings for Indian Railways, powered by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) through the Google Pay app," noted Google India on the announcement.
This feature will be available for both Android and iOS users using the Google Pay app on their devices. With this new feature, Google is aiming to bring Indian users helpful ways to make money transactions simpler and make lives easier through Google Pay. All Google Pay users from now on will be able to search and browse train options. Not just that they can also book or cancel tickets with their IRCTC account, at no additional cost, within a fast, intuitive and reliable user experience.
Google Pay already lets users book bus and cab and provides options like RedBus, abhiBus, Yatra and Goibibo. From now on, Google Pay will also let people see details like seat availability, journey duration, and travel times between your stations of choice, so it is easy to compare and choose between options.
Commenting on the introduction of the new features, Ambarish Kenghe, Director, Product Management, Google Pay said, UPI payments are fast gathering momentum in India as consumers become increasingly comfortable with the concept of bank-to-bank transfers. It's heartening to note that these transactions are not just limited to the top metros, but that users of Google Pay are spread across India.
Kenghe further says, "Two out of every three transactions on Google Pay come from 300,000 of India's towns and villages, well beyond India's largest metros. The train ticket booking feature addresses an important need for Indian users, right within the app and is another step to making the lives of our users easier and more convenient with Google Pay.
