M. Sivasankar, a former top civil servant and prime accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case, is fabricating evidence to prove that the probe officer is “exerting pressure” on accused Swapna Suresh to entangle Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the case, according to the Enforcement Directorate.
The ED petitioned the Supreme Court to have Mr. Sivasankar's bail revoked. The ED's move came just days before the Assembly elections, while the Kerala police, in an unusual turn of events, filed a case against ED officials for allegedly forcing Ms. Suresh to implicate Mr. Vijayan. The application is in response to a complaint filed in the Sessions Court by another defendant, Sandeep Nair. Mr. Nair alleged that the investigating officer pressured him to name Mr. Vijayan, three other State Ministers, and the son of a powerful figure in the smuggling case.
