Godman arrested for raping over 65 women disciples in Haryana

The Haryana Police have arrested a self-styled godman for allegedly raping many of his female disciples and filming the act.

The notorious godman has been identified as Baba Amarpuri alas Billuram. He is a priest at the Baba Balaknath temple in Tohana area of Fatehabad district.

Police raided the temple premises and his ashram after more than 90 videos showing him sexually assault his women disciples surfaced online and started doing the rounds of social media.

India Today TV has accessed most of these videos. Some of them feature the same women on different occasions. However, at least 65 are distinct cases of sexual harassment and rape.

Amarpuri was arrested on Friday. During the raid, police seized some "suspicious articles". "We have a filed a case against him and started a probe into the matter," a police officer privy to the matter said.

Police have booked him under section 376 (rape), 292 (obscenity), among others, of the Indian Penal Code.

It is alleged that Amarpuri used to harass women disciples who visited the temple, film the act and use the videos to blackmail them.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Joginder Sharma said the raids were carried out after they received tip-off about the godman's activities.

"We are interrogating him to know more about his crimes," he said, also appealing to the people to not forward the videos on social media.
