Giants produce mammoth fourth quarter against Nymburk

A fourth quarter to remember earned Telenet Giants Antwerp victory over CEZ Nymburk in the Basketball Champions League.

Telenet Giants Antwerp produced a stunning fourth quarter to take a step closer to the Basketball Champions League play-offs, beating CEZ Nymburk 85-72 on Tuesday.

Nymburk had an opportunity to close within one win of the Giants in Group C but a 26-7 fourth quarter swung the match in the hosts' favour in Antwerp, sending them three points clear in fourth.

The result puts paid to Nymburk's own hopes of making the play-offs.

Hapoel Bank Yahav – already assured of their progression – sit top of the group following a 91-77 win against Montakit Fuenlabrada.

Telekom Baskets Bonn suffered a shock 70-63 defeat to Fribourg Olympic to deal a blow to their post-season chances, as Babacar Toure finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

Bonn are now a point off the top four but three of their nearest rivals – PAOK, UNET Holon and Nanterre 92 – are yet to play in this round of fixtures.

In the group's other match, Iberostar Tenerife suffered only their second defeat of the season against Umana Reyer Venezia, who won 80-78 in Tenerife to all but secure a play-off berth.

The combined margin of Tenerife's two defeats is only three points, and they were already through to the next round.

In Group D, there were wins for Besiktas Sompo Japan and Neptunas Klaipeda over Promitheas Patras and SIG Strasbourg respectively to leave the pool finely poised heading into the final weeks of the round-robin phase.

The only match to take place in Group A on Tuesday saw Ventspils beat Le Mans 88-77.
