German raped in Mumbai

Mumbai, Nov 5 (IANS) A German national was allegedly raped and robbed early Monday by an unidentified person who broke into her flat here, police said.

According to police, the 27-year-old victim is a musician by profession and stays in a rented apartment in suburban Bandra in north Mumbai. The incident took place around 4 a.m.

Additional Commissioner of Police Vishwas Nangre-Patil said the preliminary medical examination of the victim had confirmed the sexual assault.

Nangre-Patil said the accused had held the victim at knife-point after he entered the apartment through an open window.

"The accused threatened her with his knife and raped her and later fled the apartment with some of her belongings and foreign and Indian currency," Nangre-Patil told reporters here.

Police have prepared a sketch of the accused, charged with rape, house breaking and robbery.

This is the second such incident in the last 10 days. On Oct 28, two unidentified men allegedly attacked and molested a 21-year-old Russian woman at Worli Seaface in south Mumbai.
