Berlin [Germany], Mar. 4 (ANI): German Chancellor Angela Merkel is due to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump for the first time on March 14, Deutsche Welle (DW) reported citing a government source.
According to DW, separately, government spokesman Steffen Seibert, who is currently traveling with Merkel during a diplomatic visit in Tunisia, said "we are not denying" reports of the planned meeting.
During his presidential campaign, Trump frequently criticized Merkel for "ruining Germany" by taking in large numbers of refugees. Meanwhile, Merkel has been was critical of Trump's refugee and immigration travel ban, which was blocked by the courts.
In their first phone conversation, Merkel reminded the billionaire of democratic values.(ANI)
