Geological survey team to analyze extent of Uttarakhand glacier burst damage

The effect of climate change or development, a glacial lake burst, a cloud burst or an avalanche, scientists are unsure about what caused Sunday morning's sudden water surge near Chamoli district in Uttarakhand that briefly raised fears of a repeat of the state's 2013 disaster.

Environmental experts say that the glacier burst is the result of the Himalayan region's climate change, which is warming up faster than the other mountain regions across the globe. Geological Survey of India has decided to send a team to the state to analyze the extent of the damage and the cause behind it. The number of team members and the names of the locations which will be covered has not been decided yet. To know more, watch the full video!
