Gangrape accused wants milk and fruits

NEW DELHI: One of the key accused in the gruesome Delhi gang rape on Monday sought permission from a Delhi Court to get a ‘ proper diet’ as he is preparing for a recruitment examination in the Indian Air Force.

Vinay Sharma filed an application before a fast track court to provide him with a healthy diet comprising milk and fruits.

The council also asked the court to provide newspapers to the accused as he is preparing for the Air Force Category C entrance test for recruitment of clerks. “He is preparing for the IAF entrance test which is on April 7. He now also has two tutors who are coaching him in jail.

After the entrance test, he will also have to take his BA exams. He needs a good diet so that he can study well,” Vinay’s lawyer A. P. Singh said.

The court has directed the Tihar jail authorities to give their comments on the plea by Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the proceedings on Monday got delayed by 45 minutes as the counsel for accused Pawan Gupta and Vinay came late.

Additional Sessions Judge Yogesh Khanna also took strong note of the fact that defence lawyers came late to attend the proceedings and cautioned them that it was the last warning and that they could be replaced.

Later, a lawyer for accused Mukesh and Akshay Singh M. L. Sharma again refused to cross- examine the witnesses and said he would start from Tuesday.

He also said he has been given time till April 4 to file an appeal in the Delhi HC against the order by which his application seeking documents in Hindi was rejected.
