Gambhir flies home

Ahmedabad: India opener Gautam Gambhir flew back to Delhi on Sunday, the fourth day of the ongoing India-England Test, following the death of his maternal grandmother Asha Gulati.

She was 71. She suffered a cardiac arrest on Saturday night. Gambhir is expected to rejoin the team either on Sunday night or on Monday morning. As England have taken a lead, India will have to bat in the second innings.

However, Gambhir is unlikely to open the innings with Virender Sehwag because he has been off the field for an extended period, for reasons other than an external injury.
