- Wife of French conservative presidential candidate Francois Fillon has been placed under formal investigation for allegedly receiving large sums of public funds for work she never performed, according to reports.
- Penelope Fillon was charged with “misuse of public funds”, “receiving money from a misuse of company assets” and “receiving money from a fraud,” according to a judicial official.
- Francois has also been charged in the same case for embezzlement, etc. and his presidential campaign has dealt a severe blow right before the two-round election on 23 April and 7 May.
