French Ice Dancer Gabriella Papadakis Suffers ‘Nightmare’ Wardrobe Malfunction at Winter Olympics 2018
Wardrobe malfunctions are embarrassing and daunting, especially when you are performing at a mega platform like Olympics where all the eyes of thousands of spectators are on you. Recently a famous French figure skater Gabriella Papadakis revealed about her “worst nightmare” as she suffered a wardrobe malfunction during her performance at the 2018 Winter Olympics. During the start of her routine with partner Guillaume Cizeron, a lift by Cizeron resulted in the Papadakis’ dress becoming undone and same exposed one of her breasts.
Instead of stopping her performance in midway, she continued her skating and was rewarded her bravery. Once they finished the routine, she covered herself back up and waved at the viewers and judges before leaving the ice floor. “It was pretty distracting,” Papadakis told media. “My worst nightmare at the Olympics. I told myself ‘you have to keep going’. “That’s what we did, and we have to be proud of ourselves, delivering a great performance.”
Unfortunately, part of the figure skating scoring system is judged on the costume as well as on aesthetics of the performance as well. Yes, they were penalized for the same and their score was 81.93 points. Malfunction led to the drop in points and led them at number two position otherwise they would have passed the leaders’ total 83.6. “It’s just frustrating to miss a few points because of a costume issue. It is not what we get ready for when we train,” Cizeron told. South Korea’s Yura Min also suffered a dress failure on during her routine with partner Alexander Gamelin. During the whole performance, she was seen readjusting her dress many times.
