Fourth-generation Mahindra Scorpio spied testing
Mahindra & Mahindra is going to be one busy company in 2020. The Indian automobile giant has several launches lined up for the next year, one of them being the fourth-generation Scorpio. It is not an unknown fact that the firm is conducting extensive tests of the legendary SUV in its new avatar, which has been spied during road-tests on several occasions in the past. Now, one of our readers has shared with us a few photographs of a heavily camouflaged Scorpio.
Initially launched in India in 2002, Mahindra Scorpio is presently in its third-generation and priced in the range of Rs 9,99,994 (ex-showroom, Delhi) and Rs 16,44,199 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The company might tweak the prices of the next-gen SUV depending on the additions made. The 2020 Scorpio will go against Tata Harrier, Nissan Kicks, Renault Captur, Hyundai Creta, recently-unveiled Kia Seltos and MG Hector, which will be launched in the country on June 27.
The fourth-gen Mahindra Scorpio is expected to come with several changes on the outside and inside the cabin. It will sport a new front fascia with a redesigned seven-slat grille. The headlamps, bumpers and taillamps seem to have been refurbished as well. While the 2020 edition will continue to based on the ladder-frame chassis, it is going to have more space than the current one.
In terms of length, the 2020 Mahindra Scorpio will have an edge over its predecessor. Its height will be less though. However, there will be no dearth of flamboyant road presence. It seems that the test-mule is one of the lower variants as it sports steel wheels and not alloys.
The fourth-gen Mahindra Scorpio will feature premium interiors, with a luxurious cabin. We can expect the next-gen SUV to have upmarket upholstery, multi-function steering wheel, new touchscreen infotainment system. There will be standard safety features like ABS with EBD, dual airbags, co-driver seat belt reminder, reverse parking sensors and high-speed alert system.
Currently, Mahindra Scorpio is available with two diesel engine options -- 2.5-litre m2DICR and 2.2-litre mHawk. The new-gen SUV might get a new BS6-compliant 2.0-litre diesel powertrain. There will be manual as well as automatic transmission options on offer.
Apart from fouth-gen Scorpio, Mahindra & Mahindra will also launch next-gen Thar in 2020.
