Former Haryana CM and son arrested in teacher recruitment scam

Former Haryana CM Om Prakash Chautala and his MLA son Ajay Chautala son were among the 53 convicted by a Delhi court for illegal recruitment of over 3000 teachers in the state. They have been taken into custody and the sentence will be pronounced on January 22.

The scam took place in 2000 when Chautala was also the state Education Minister. He allegedly told the then Primary Education Director Sanjeev Kumar, a co-accused in the case, to come up with a second list of candidates. This second list had the names of those who paid the bribes of around Rs 3-4 lakh.

The CBI had chargesheeted the Chautalas in June 2008. Charges were framed against them under Prevention of Corruption Act.
