Foreign Secretary issues demarche to Pakistan High Commissioner over Kulbhushan Jadhav's death sentence

Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar on Monday summoned the Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit and also issued a demarche after Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court. The demarche said the proceedings that led to the sentence against Jadhav are farcical in the absence of any credible evidence against him, adding, the High Commission in Islamabad was not even informed that Jadhav was being brought to trial. It further noted that the sentence was awarded without observing basic norms of law and justice, and if carried out, the Government and people of India will regard it as a case of premeditated murder.
