Following Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi's meeting with political leaders from the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is now set to host political representatives and civil society members from the Kargil region of Ladakh on coming 1 July, reports Indian Express.

The meeting will be held in continuance with the meetings that MHA has been holding with the representatives from Ladakh for the last few months to address their concerns about the protection of their culture, land and language.

As per an MHA official quoted by Indian Express, while a meeting on these subjects was held with the representatives from Ladakh, but, people from Kargil had asked for a separate meeting. The official elaborated, "They said their concerns were different. The meeting will be attended by both politicians and civil society members."

The meeting will be chaired by Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy. It should be noted that back in January, MHA had announced that it would form a committee under MoS Reddy to find a solution to issues associated with the preservation of Ladakh’s land, culture, and language apart from demands from the region to be included under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
