On The Newshour Debate, Navika Kumar speaks to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman about the recent budget that has been announced by her in the parliament today. The budget according to Finance Minister was one of its kind and the nation has never seen a budget like that in a century. However, one cannot ignore the fact that the budget came in the backdrop of a pandemic and amid the ongoing farmer's protest on the borders of the National Capital.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman states that infrastructure per se was the area that the government focused on while making the budget and it also includes Agri infrastructure. Commenting on whether she faced pressure while preparing the budget, in the context of farmer's protest, Nirmala Sitharaman adds that the focus was on sectors that will provide jobs and revive the economy because the budget was being prepared for the next 12 months.
