First batches of Serum Institute's vaccine Covishield leave Pune

The first batches of Covishield, Serum Institute's vaccine against COVID-19 leaves Pune to be taken to different parts of the country. Three temperature-controlled trucks left the facility of the institute and pooja was performed before vehicles left the facility. The vaccination drive will begin on January 16. The vaccine is being carried to different parts of the country via eight flights. The Government has committed to purchase 4.6 crore Covishield doses from SII.

"The first consignment of the vaccine has been dispatched from the facility of Serum Institute of India here. We have made elaborate security arrangements," Namrata Patil, DCP (Zone 5), Pune said.
