Farmers protest: 8th round of talks fail; Deadlock continues

On Friday, the eighth round of negotiations between the protesting farmers' unions and the Centre ended on an inconclusive note, with farmers sticking to their demand for the abolition of farm laws and the Centre insisting that the talks should be limited to controversial clauses.

The farmers, holding their ground during the meeting, told the government on Friday that their "Ghar wapsi" could take place only after "law wapsi." The Centre, however, ruled out the complete withdrawal of the Acts, claiming that a large section of farmers in other states across the country have welcomed the laws, and asked the unions to think about the interests of the entire country.

It is likely that the next round of talks will take place on January 15.
