Just yesterday we saw several farmer groups protest against the farm bill that allows private players to purchase directly from the farmers, but what's the reality on the ground?
Times now visited the APMC yard in Bengaluru's Yeswanthpur to speak to the farmers from various parts of the state who have come to sell their produce here. While most of them welcome the option of selling their produce directly to anyone they like, they believe the option of falling back on APMC must prevail too. They felt selling produce directly saves transport costs & labour involved in bringing produce to APMC yards while also giving an option of holding back produce if they don't get a good price. They flagged concerns of selling to APMC yards at the day's price as they cannot take back the goods, resulting in loses.
