Farm Law Protests: Seventh round of Centre and farmer leaders talks underway

New Delhi, On Monday afternoon, the seventh round of talks between protesting farmers unions and three central ministers began here to break the over-a-month-long deadlock on recent farm legislation. Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of Agriculture of the Union, Piyush Goyal, Minister of Rail, Trade and Food, and Som Parkash, Minister of State for Trade, who is an MP from Punjab are holding talks and are being held at Vigyan Bhawan with members of 40 farmers' unions.

The sixth round of talks between the government and the farmers' unions was held on 30 December, where some common ground was found on two demands: the decriminalisation of stubble-burning and the continuation of subsidies for electricity. While some opposition parties and people from other walks of life have come out in support of the farmers, over the past few weeks, several farmers' organisations have also met with the minister of agriculture to expand their support for the three laws.
