Family disputes, RJD's poor state, arthritis add to Lalu Prasad's woes

All is not well in the Lalu Prasad family and the Rashtriya Janata Dal camp. The party is struggling and its supremo is not doing well health-wise.

He is currently hospitalised at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi after his conviction in fodder scam cases.

Lalu Prasad has been diagnosed with hypertension and diabetes. Now the symptoms of his arthritis have flared up, leaving him immobile.

Dr DK Jha, who has been treating Lalu ever since he was admitted to RIMS says that diabetic patient should walk at least 3 km in 30 mins but Lalu is able to walk only 100-200 meters a day following the aggravation of arthritis.

Speaking exclusively with India Today TV, Dr Jha said, "Only 50 per cent of Lalu's kidneys are functional...His diet is restricted. Even if he wishes to have non-vegetarian food we don't allow him."

Adding to Lalu's worries are the RJD's dismal performance in the Lok Sabha elections, elder son Tej Pratap's failed marriage as well as his rift with brother Tejashwi.

However, Jha told India Today TV refrains from discussing his personal issues at the hospital.
