Expect Mamata to brief me about losses due to 'Bulbul': Guv

(Eds: Minor correction in intro, para 3) Siliguri (WB), Nov 18 (PTI) Expressing anguish overWest Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee not informing himabout the losses incurred by the state due to cyclone'Bulbul', Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday said he expectsthe CM to brief him on it within a few days.

Dhankhar said as per the Constitution, it is the dutyof the chief minister to brief the state's governor onimportant developments.

'And, 'Bulbul' is certainly an important developmentwhich calls for the chief minister to keep the governorabreast of developments with regard to it,' he told reportershere.

'I am sure she will brief me within a few days,' thegovernor said.

In a report to the visiting central team, the WestBengal government on Saturday said the state incurred a lossof Rs 23,811 crore in the devastations caused by 'Bulbul' thathas affected around 35 lakh people in three districts.

Dhankhar also noted that there have been severalimportant developments in the state in the over 100 days sincehe took over as governor on July 30, but Banerjee 'has notbriefed him' on any of these, despite Constitutionalobligations.

The governor reiterated his denial of the TrinamoolCongress chief's accusation that he is running a parallelgovernment in the state. 'The CM has never written to me thatthe governor has exceeded his powers'.

The TMC had recently slammed the governor forallegedly exceeding his brief and wondered whether heunderstood his 'constitutional bindings'.

The governor maintained that he is acting as per theConstitution and will continue to do so. 'If someone wants meto be a tourist here, I will not be one,' he asserted.
