Even stray dogs do not go hungry in India; says minister in the Parliament

Parshottam Rupala, the Union Minister of State for Agriculture, said in Parliament on Friday that India should disregard hunger reports prepared by NGOs because even street dogs are fed "sheera (sweet dish)" after giving birth in this country. Rupala was reacting to AAP MP Sanjay Singh's remarks in the Rajya Sabha about India's low ranking in the Global Hunger Index 2020.

According to Singh, the minister stated in his written response to the matter that the country's hunger situation has improved, as India was ranked 102 in 2019 and 94 out of 107 countries in 2020. Despite being one of the top ten food-processing countries in the world, India still ranks low on the hunger index, according to the AAP MP. He also mentioned that neighboring countries such as Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka fared much better.
