Evacuations Recommended for Lafourche Parish as Storm Delta Nears Louisiana

Winds were starting to pick up in Louisiana’s Lafourche Parish on Thursday, October 8, as the state braced for the impact of Hurricane Delta, which on Thursday was a Category 2 storm.

According to the Lafourche Parish government: “Parish President Archie Chaisson has issued a Mandatory Evacuation for residents and businesses south of the Leon Theriot Floodgate in Golden Meadow and other low-lying areas of Lafourche Parish, effective 6pm today.”

The sheriff’s office also recommended evacuations.

According to weather reports, Hurricane Delta is forecasted to reach the Louisiana coast on Friday. News reports said the hurricane could bring tornadoes, several inches of rainfall, high wind gusts, and flash flooding upon or ahead of landfall.

A state of emergency was issued by Louisiana Gov John Bel Edwards on Wednesday, October 7.
