English Premier League 2017-18: Patrice Evra Joins West-Ham United

Evra will be reunited with David Moyes -- who was his coach at Manchester United.

New Delhi: Former French defender Patrice Evra has joined West-ham United on a short-term contract to mark his return to English football. The former Manchester United star made 273 appearances for the English football giants from 2006 to 2014. Evra, 36, has passed a medical and signed a short-term contract until the end of June 2018 with West Ham

“West Ham United are pleased to confirm the signing of the vastly-experienced Patrice Evra on a short-term contract,” the club announced.

“Evra, who joins the Hammers on a contract until the end of June 2018 and will wear the No. 27 shirt, worked with Hammers manager David Moyes during his time at Old Trafford, and is looking forward to linking up with his old boss and returning to the Premier League.”

Evra said: “I’m really happy to be a Hammer, to be back in the Premier League and I love this game!”

The Frenchman also revealed that he could not wait to sign for the club, once he was made aware of the opportunity to be reunited with David Moyes — who was his coach at Manchester United.

It should be noted that Evra was sacked by French football club Olympique de Marseille earlier this season and banned by UEFA following an altercation with a supporter. However, the ban, which runs until June 30, only relates to UEFA tournaments and does not prevent Evra from playing in any domestic competitions, including the Premier League.
