EC slams TMC; claims letter is full of innuendos, undermines Constitution's foundations

The Election Commission of India (ECI) slammed the Trinamool Congress (TMC), saying the party's letter to it is "full of insinuations and averments" and "undermines the Constitution's very basis."

'It is absolutely incorrect to say that the Commission has taken over the state's law and order machinery in the name of conducting elections and appropriated the entire governance system, etc,' the Election Commission said, describing the tone and content of the letter as "unfortunate." The Election Commission was reacting to a memorandum sent to it by a Trinamool Congress delegation regarding the incident in Nandigram on Wednesday, in which West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was injured.
