'It will be easier for Congress if Modi is appointed PM candidate': Rashid Alvi

New Delhi/Bodh Gaya, Aug. 17 (ANI): Congress leader Rashid Alvi on Saturday took a jibe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after its Bihar unit asked the central leadership to announce Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, saying when self-destruction nears one loses his wisdom and bent of mind.

Alvi, however, said it is an internal matter of the BJP.

"It is their internal matter if they want to make Narendra Modi the Prime Minister. The Congress Party came into power after defeating that BJP, which was led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee," said Alvi.

"We will have to work less if Narendra Modi becomes the Prime Ministerial candidate," he added.

The BJP's Bihar unit earlier in the day passed a unanimous resolution urging the party's parliamentary board to announce Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate.

The BJP's Bihar State Executive Committee passed this resolution at a meeting in Bodh Gaya.

Senior BJP leader from Bihar, Sushil Kumar Modi, moved the motion and demanding a parliamentary board meeting to take the decision in Modi's favour.

"We have passed a unanimous resolution urging the BJP central leadership to convene an immediate meting of a central parliamentary board to declare Narendra Modi as Prime Ministerial candidate," he said in Bodh Gaya.

Modi, who has been elevated as the BJP's poll panel chief, is considered by many to be the party's face for the next general elections.

The BJP has, however, not officially endorsed his candidature yet. (ANI)
