A Glimpse of Dutee Chand's Felicitation Ceremony:

However, that doesn’t lessen the importance of her victory as Chand’s medals in the event is first for India in the last 20 years. The last time an Indian woman won the Silver medal in 100m event was in 1998.

Chand also happens to be India’s third woman athlete to ever qualify in the Summer Olympics, by qualifying at Rio Olympics 2016. However, her run of 11.69s runs in the preliminary round saw her fail to be eligible in the next round. At Asian Games 2018, she clocked 11.32s to win the Silver medal. It will be interesting to see her prospects for the Summer Olympics, which will be held in Tokyo.

India put on a great show at the recently concluded Asian Games. The Indian contingent won 17 medals in Athletics and 69 overall. In them, India won 15 Gold, 24 Silver, and 30 Bronze medals and was placed 8th in the medal tally of 2018 Asian Games.
