DUSU Election Results 2017: NSUI Wins President, V-P Post, ABVP Gets Secretary, Jt Secretary Post
New Delhi, September 13: The National Student Union of India (NSUI), student wing of Congress, won two posts in Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections on Wednesday. The NSUI won the post of President, Vice President while the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), students wing of Bharatiya Janata Party, got the Secretary and Joint Secretary post.
NSUI’s Rocky Tusheed won President Post, Kunal Sehrawat got Vice President post. ABVP’s Mahamedhaa Nagar won the Secretary post. This is a major comeback for NSUI as it bagged both the top posts in DUSU.
After 13 rounds of counting, the NSUI was leading in all the four seats. “As the margin was less, the ABVP asked for re-counting and then they won the Secretary and Joint Secretary posts. The winning margin on both the posts is of just 200-300 votes,” said Sanjeev Singh, National Media Co-ordinator of Congress.
“A major comeback for us in DUSU 2017. Students of DU have given us a huge responsibility to fight for their rights. This mandate is a clear indication that student fraternity have restored their faith in Congress and our beloved leader Rahul Gandhi. Also this mandate shows that students throughout the country have rejected the poisonous and divisive ideology of RSS. Finally this victory belongs to every NSUI activist who have worked tirelessly in DU, specially our mentors,” NSUI tweeted.
Even before the results were officially declared, the NSUI started celebrating outside the counting centre. The counting of votes took place at a community hall near Kingsway Camp amid tight security.
The main contestants for the DUSU presidential post are ABVP’s Rajat Choudhary, NSUI’s Rocky Tusheed, AISA’s Parul Chauha, independent candidate Raja Choudury and independent Alka.
Representatives of major students political outfits were among those present outside counting centre.
A total of 43 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the DUSU elections held on Tuesday.
Controversy also stuck the DUSU elections with the Delhi High Court alloweing NSUI’s Rocky Tuseed to contest the polls. Delhi University’s Chief Election Officer (CEO) had rejected the nomination of the NSUI nominee because of some disciplinary action against him.
Recently, the NSUI won three key posts out of four of the Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC) polls. Jashan Kamboj of the NSUI won the post of president of the PUCSC. The post of vice president and office secretary went to Karanvir Singh and Vani Sood of the NSUI, an official said here. The fourth post of joint secretary went to PUSU alliance candidate Karanbir Singh.
