Dustin Johnson's campaign for a repeat win at The Masters will not reach the weekend.
The world No. 1 missed the cut at Augusta on Friday, finishing the second round at 5-over. The cut line was 3-over.
Just five months ago, Johnson was winning his first green jacket and setting a tournament record at 20-under in the process. The performance, which may have come amid more forgiving conditions due to the tournament's November date in 2020, bested the previous record of 18-under held by Tiger Woods (1997) and Jordan Spieth (2015).
Johnson becomes the third Masters champion in five years to miss the cut at the following tournament, joining Sergio Garcia and Danny Willett.
Other big-name players to miss the cut included Rory McIlroy (6-over) and Brooks Koepka (5-over). Matthew Wolff also finished at 11-over, then made yet another error by signing an incorrect scorecard and getting disqualified.
Justin Rose currently tops the leaderboard at 7-under, with Will Zalatoris and Brian Harman one stroke behind him.
