Dust storm in Rajasthan claims 17 lives, injures 80

Journalist Rajesh Singh of a Hindi daily, Dainik Jagran, received a death threat from Janata Dal United (JDU) MLC Hira Vind in Bihar's Nalanda district. It was while the journalist was working in his office that four goons came to his place and asked him about a news article. Replying to which the journalist said that he had written that particular story. The goons threatened him and made him recall the 'Siwan journalist attack incident'. Rajesh Singh thereby has formally lodged a complaint with the police. The police are yet to probe the entire incident.

New Delhi, May 20 (ANI): At least 17 people have been killed and more than 80 people injured in a deadly dusty storm which swept through parts of Rajasthan yesterday.

While trees and electricity poles were uprooted at many places, rail, road and air traffic was also affected due to the storm.

There have been reports of casualties from Dholpur, Bharatpur Bikaner, Sawai Madhopur and Baran, Bundi and Nagaur areas of Rajasthan.

The state administration has, meanwhile, announced a compensation of Rs four lakh from the disaster relief fund for the victims' families. (ANI)
