DU Prof GN Saibaba, 5 others, convicted for alleged Maoist links

Delhi University professor GN Saibaba and five others – including JNU student Hem Mishra and former journalist Prashant Rahi – were convicted, by the Gadchiroli Sessions Court under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, on 7 March. Their sentences will be announced at 3pm.

The wheelchair-bound Delhi-based English professor in Ram Lal Anand College, Saibaba was arrested from his residence in 2013 for having links with CPI(Maoist).

He was nabbed after a JNU student Hemant Mishra in police custody said that he was acting as a courier between the professor and Maoists holed up in Abujmad forests in Chhattisgarh. Mishra along with four others were arrested for waging war against the country and supporting the ideology of banned organisation CPI (Maoist).
