A young Delhi based lady, aged around 25 years, came into the spot light in January 2017 for accusing Bollywood producer Karim Morani of rape. She filed a case in the Hayathnagar police station in Hyderabad. During the preliminary investigation Morani had attained anticipatory bail. But the Ranga Reddy High Court has now cancelled the anticipatory bail and has asked him to surrender by March 22nd.
The woman alleged that Morani drugged her and raped her on multiple instances. He also clicked nude pictures of hers and later blackmailed her, threatening to leak the pictures and also even threatened to kill her many a times.
"He repeatedly drugged and raped me. He threatened to shoot me and blackmailed me with nude pictures of mine which he had clicked," she said in an interview with India Today.
"I didn't know what to do and could not believe it was happening to me. I was close to his daughter. One day Karim called me up and told me he wanted to celebrate after completing the shoot of a song in Dilwale. He came home with a bottle of wine. I remember having two sips, after that I got up the next morning with pain in my lower abdomen," she said.
The complainant lived in Mumbai for 2 years and was focusing on her acting career. She was friends with Morani's relative and was later introduced to him. She alleges that the first time she was sexually violated by Morani was in July 2015 and this went on for a year and a half.
"I didn't know what was happening nor did I know how to react. I was depressed and didn't talk to anyone about it. When I spoke to his family, they did not even react. But now after going through so much, I felt the need to fight. And I am doing this on my own," she revealed.
Based on her complaint, the Hayathnagar police registered a case against Morani under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 376 (rape), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation), 493 (cohabitation caused by a man deceitfully inducing a belief of lawful marriage), 417 (cheating) and Section 354C of the Criminal Law Amendment Act (popularly known as Nirbhaya Act).
Karim Morani is well known in the Bollywood circle. He has produced movies like Ra. One, Chennai Express, Diwakar, Yodha and Dum.
The complainant has also met the Delhi commission for woman and they have registered her case. They have also called for a hearing on March 17.
