Normally, the month of June would signal the end of the school year and the transition to summer, but this year things are looking a little different for many families across the country.

What hasn’t changed though are the annual savings and sales happening throughout the month on everything from tools and housewares to skincare. Father’s Day is coming up, making now the perfect time to take advantage of savings and find Dad a gift that he will love.

There are also some items that you’re better off waiting for, as upcoming sales will offer better savings than might be available this month. Read on to find out five of the best things to buy this month, and what to skip.

Power Tools & Hardware

Since Father’s Day is just around the corner, many retailers are offering discounts on hardware and tools to update Dad’s collection. If you are planning on buying your gifts online this year, just be sure to allow plenty of extra time to allow for any potential shipping delays.

Whether you’re into hunting, fishing, or camping, chances are you’ll find some great deals this month as prices on outdoor gear are slashed in time for Father’s Day. Again, just be sure to leave plenty of time if you’re shopping for a gift.

Pride Collections

Along with Father’s Day, June is Pride Month and many retailers have begun offering limited-edition collections in rainbow colourways. These collections tend to sell out, so you’ll want to shop them early if you’re looking for a way to celebrate.

SHOP IT: Shop the Rainbow Disney Collection now, with $100,000 in sales going towards GLSEN, a leading education organization working to create safe and inclusive K-12 schools for LGBTQ+ students.

Cookware and Dishes

In what would usually be the start of wedding season, home goods like cookware and dishes are still on sale throughout the month of June. Even if you aren’t attending any celebrations, it’s a great time to take advantage of major discounts.

Electronics

Prime Day is coming up, so if you have your eye on a new laptop, TV or other electronics, your best bet will be to wait until Amazon’s biggest shopping day to find the best deals.

Summer clothing

Since it’s the beginning of the season, most new summer items will still be marked at full price for the next few weeks. Once late July rolls around, you’ll start seeing bigger discounts on seasonal clothing, which you can still enjoy throughout the end of the summer.

Mattresses

In case you missed out on Memorial Day and Victoria Day sales, you’ll want to hold off until the next round of discounts to buy a new mattress. They typically can be found at discounted prices around Labour Day, and as part of Black Friday home sales.
