Don’t Ever Tell An Autistic Kid They Can’t Score 99.97% in CAT!

Never give in.

This is exactly what will come in your mind too when you read about the story of Mihir Kapse, who has mild autism and scored an impressive 99.97% in the Common Admission Test (CAT) exam, according to Times Now.

25-year-old-Mihir, whose mild autism was identified when he was 10, has never let his medical condition get in the way of his dreams.

He pursued a B.Tech degree in Computer Science from a Pune engineering college, and currently works with JP Morgan as a quality analyst. In an earlier interview to My Medical Mantra, his mother, Janhavi, says,

"There are many Mihirs in different parts of our country, especially in remote areas, who are struggling with autism or other mental disorders. They require right kind of attention, education and treatment. As a parent and a responsible citizen, I feel we need to sensitise our society about these disorders as only awareness can help us to treat everyone equally" - Janhavi, in an interview to My Medical Mantra

According to the Indian express, at least 10 million individuals have autism in India, with one in 68 kids in India suffering from Autism.

Autism spectrum disorder is a medical condition that refers to a broad range of challenges, from social skills to repetitive behaviors, to speech and nonverbal communication.

Very Well Health reports that, even people with mild autism “have significant developmental and sensory challenges that are severe enough to get in the way of normal activities and relationships”.

Besides the medical challenges, kids with autism also have to battle social stigma and many misconceptions.

But stories like that of Mihir remind us that hard work and dedication and a strong willpower can help surmount any challenges.
