Anything that we study, hear or see gets acquired by our memory, as this information gets into the brain, it is then processed and stored in the hippocampus. Memories are stored all over the brain, and stress can affect the way your brain processes and stores your memory.
Our brain reacts to stress by releasing hormones called corticosteroids. It activates the process of threat detection and threat response in the brain.
At first the Corticosteroids hormone stimulates our hippocampus, but as the level of these hormones increase, the storing capacity of memory starts to fall.
And if the level of these stress hormones rise, it can also damage our hippocampus and decrease our ability to create or store new memory. The Prefrontal Cortex of our brain governs thoughts, attention, and reasoning. And when these hormones stimulate the Amygdala, it decreases the ability of Prefrontal Cortex.
And this makes our mind go blank during a test, as a result, the more you try to remember, the more stress you will put yourself into. Leading to a continuous cycle of more Corticosteroids hormones.
