The Delhi Police has been pretty busy these days with tracking down and eventually arresting people they believe are related to the much controversial protest toolkit.
The toolkit had initially been tweeted as a reply by Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg on how to protest regarding the recent ongoing farmer’s protest in and around Delhi.
Quickly after the Delhi Police filed an FIR against Thunberg and also started investigating about the Indian parties involved in the toolkit.
Now, just 3 days after they arrested 22-year-old activist Disha Ravi from Bengaluru, the police has also gotten their hands on Mumbai-based advocate Nikita Jacob and her associate Shantanu.
Where Ravi was stated to spend 5 days in remand after appearing at the Patiala House Court with Metropolitan Magistrate Dev Saroha presiding over the case.
Jacob and Shantanu have both been issued non-bailable warrants, accusing them of being intimately involved in the creation of the Google document that was the protest toolkit.
As per a report by The Indian Express, a senior police official said that this is a prima facie investigation and that “We believe Nikita and Shantanu asked Disha to join because she has contact with Greta. Their aim was to highlight the issue globally. The toolkit was supposed to be private but Greta posted it on Twitter. They later asked her to delete it, which she did. Disha then edited the document and it was uploaded again.”
But while these two girls are constantly in the news these days, we took a look at who exactly are they.
Disha Ravi is a 22-year old environmental activist of India. She has graduated from Mount Carmel College in Bengaluru and also done her Bachelor of Business Administration from a private college in Bengaluru.
Disha is also one of the founding members of ‘Fridays For Future’, a climate activist group started in 2018 by Greta Thunberg.
Disha started the Indian chapter of the group in 2019 called ‘Fridays For Future India’ and is the head of the organisation since then.
Apparently, as per an interview with Auto Report Africa in 2020, her drive to be actively vocal about climate issues and environmental conservation came about after she saw how her farmer grandparents were having to struggle because of this.
Even before she left college she has been speaking about climate issues, and her friends and acquaintances state how she can surely be seen at various tree-planting drives, lake clean-ups and more across Bengaluru.
Ravi has been featured in media reports domestic and international like ‘The Guardian’; ‘Vogue’, and more.
Nikita Jacob is a practising lawyer since 2015 currently enrolled with the Maharashtra and Goa State Bar Council.
As per reports, she did her schooling from Panchgani, getting a degree in science from St Xavier’s College in Mumbai and eventually got her law degree in 2013 from Pune’s ILS Law College.
The 30-year-old lawyer is a volunteer with a 2018 UK based advocacy group revolving around climate change called Extinction Rebellion.
According to reports Nikita is said to handle only civil cases and while is known to be quite involved in environmental activism through groups and NGOs, she has never outright supported any political party.
She does state that she is a “first-generation lawyer” as per her LinkedIn profile and also that she is a human rights and environmental rights activist.
