Director Mysskin slammed for rape joke at Peranbu audio launch
The audio launch of director Ram's upcoming film Peranbu was recently held in Chennai, which was attended by many leading directors and actors of Tamil cinema.
During the launch, all the filmmakers who have seen the film, including Bharathiraja, KS Ravikumar and Karu Palaniappan, heaped praise on the film.
Director Mysskin was also among the directors who gave an emotional speech about the film. However, while doing so, the director crossed a line and made a distasteful rape joke, and is currently facing severe backlash for the same.
Mysskin was all praise for the lead actor of the film Mammootty and went on to say, "If he had been younger and he had been a woman, I might have fallen in love with him. Had I been a girl, would have raped him."
The comment was met with applause and hooting.
This has not gone down too well with many. People are criticising that it is unbecoming of someone like Mysskin, who is considered to be a star director, to make a rape joke.
Actor Prasanna, who has worked in Mysskin's films Anjathey and Thuparaivaalan, also slammed the director on Twitter.
Mysskin is a friend of mine. Yet am disgusted and ashamed of his comments on women and tamil actors. Can only feel pity for the people who laughed for itPrasanna (@Prasanna_actor) July 17, 2018
