Former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit Laid to Rest With State Honours

Former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit’s mortal remains will be taken from her residence in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area to the Congress headquarters on Sunday, 21 July, before she is accorded a state funeral at Nigam Bodh Ghat.

The veteran leader and Delhi’s three-time chief minister passed away on 20 July, at the age of 81.

Her body will be kept at the party headquarters between 12:15 pm and 1:30 pm for people to pay their final respects before her last rites are performed at 2:30 pm, reported Hindustan Times.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah paid their final respects to her at her home.

According to the Director of Escorts Fortis, Dr Ashok Seth, Dikshit suffered a cardiac arrest at 3:15 pm, after which she was put on a ventilator. She breathed her last at 3:55 pm.

The Delhi government has decided to declare two days of mourning, said Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
