On Frankly Speaking with Navika Kumar, Dharmendra Pradhan, who is the Cabinet Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel in the Government of India joins in to discuss the rise in fuel prices in India. Amid surging fuel prices in the country, Kumar questions Pradhan on why the government is burdening the common man with such heavy rates on petrol and diesel which are considered as a basic need for the middle-class section of the country. To this, Pradhan says that it is not that the government wishes to burden the common people of India, but due to the crashing demands seen in the fuel industry because of the lockdown and COVID pandemic that has led to the increasing prices in the sale of petrol and diesel. He states that since the demand was negative, the prices faced a sudden hike.
