Watch: 50-year-old flung in air after being hit by speeding BMW in Delhi, dies on spot
In a hit-and-run case, a 50-year-old cyclist was killed on Wednesday after he was hit by a speeding BMW car allegedly driven by a 19-year-old Delhi University student near Kirori Mal College.
In a CCTV footage, the cyclist was seen crossing the road at Maurice Nagar around 1.20 pm. He flung several feet in the air after the car hit him.
As a result, he died on the spot. The accused has been identified as Abhinav Sahni, who is a first year student of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College.
He allegedly fled from the spot, but was later arrested and released on bail. “Sahni was arrested on Thursday after he was identified based on the CCTV footage. He lives with his family in Punjabi Bagh,” deputy commissioner of police (north), Jatin Narwal said.
The victim, Shivnath, lived in Jahangirpuri and worked with a private company as a clerk. Sahni had confessed to the crime only after intense interrogation, police said.
