The Special Cell of Delhi Police on Saturday, 11 January, arrested three people for conspiring to kill “important leaders”, police sources said.
Those arrested were allegedly planning to kill senior leaders of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), according to India TV News.
The suspects have been identified as Wali Mohammed Saifi, Riyazudin Sheikh and Muhthasim CM.
According to police sources, the Special Cell, which closely follows the activities of the underworld, received information on 9 January about the underworld’s India-based operatives’ plan to kill important persons in south India. The instructions were given by their handlers based abroad.
While Saifi and Sheikh were arrested from Delhi, Muhthasim was arrested from Kasaragod in Kerala, with the assistance of Kasaragod Police.
Two pistols, six live cartridges and mobile phones were recovered from each of the accused, said Delhi police.
Further interrogation revealed that Muhthasim and Saifi, an Afghan national, knew each other since their days in Dubai as businessmen. Muhthasim, who had plans to eliminate “important persons”, had roped in the other two accused and procured weapons for the task, police sources said.
A team of the Special Cell of New Delhi Range (NDR), led by Inspector Satish Rana, Sunil Rajain and Ravinder Joshi, arrested the three people.
A case under appropriate sections of the law has been registered at the Special Cell of the police station in this regard.
