Delhi High Court backs the need for Uniform Civil Code; Is India ready?

The Delhi High Court has backed the need for Uniform Civil Code in India and has asked the Centre to take necessary steps in the matter. The court noted that modern Indian society is gradually becoming homogeneous and dissipating traditional barriers of religion, community and cast. In view of this changing paradigm, a uniform civil court is in order. Talking on this issue, the BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay said that 'this is the duty of the Centre to uniforms code law. every developed country like the UK, US and Singapore have uniformed code law. it a time draft uniform civil code, this matter is pending in the Supreme Court.'
