Delhi: Girl Chained to Tree Along With 2 Sisters Made to Beg, Rescued by DCW Near Anand Vihar Metro Station
New Delhi, Nov 24: Days after the molestation of a woman at the ITO metro station, the Delhi Commission for Women team visited Anand Vihar Metro Station on Thursday and found more shocking scenes near the spot. The DCW rescued three girls who were being made to beg. One of them, an 8-year-old was chained to a tree, say reports.
On rescuing the three girls, DCW chief Swati Maliwal found out the parents of the girls living near the pavement of the Anand Vihar metro station. On being asked about the chained girl, the parents told her that she was addicted to drugs and was, hence, chained to the tree. (Check dark areas in Delhi Metro: CISF to QRT)
The girl herself was not in a state to tell anything to Maliwal. With the help of the police, Maliwal reportedly counselled the parents of the girls and took the three to a shelter home. “While there are rackets operating in Delhi forcing minors to beg, there are also several social and economic factors. Everyone has to come together to help in this issue,” Maliwal said as quoted by news agency PTI.
The DCW has now begun an inquiry into begging by children in the national capital after the three girls were rescued.
