Delhi: CBI arrests EPIL MD, senior officials in bribery case

The staff was intercepted by CBI while allegedly receiving the said bribe.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested the Chairman and Managing Director, EPIL (Engineering Projects (India) Ltd), Delhi; Executive Director, Contracts Division, EPIL, Delhi; Executive Director, EPIL, Mumbai Region and four others for allegedly taking bribe of Rs 10 lakh.

A case was registered u/s 120-B of IPC and Section against SPS Bakshi, CMD, EPIL, Lodhi Road, New Delhi; Harcharan Pal and Kapil Tara, Executive Director, Contracts Division, EPIL, Delhi ; Executive Director, EPIL, Mumbai Region; a representative of Raipur based private firm.

The allegations are that the aforementioned public servants demanded illegal gratification from Builders of Raipur, a private form, in order to award them the contract for construction of Mega Urban Educational Complex at Pallur Hills, Kainisi, Berhampur, District Ganjam, (Odisha).

It was further alleged that the CMD in conspiracy with others, deputed his staff to collect Rs 10 lakh as part payment of the total agreed amount of gratification from one hawala operator based at Chandni Chowk, Delhi.

The staff was intercepted by CBI while allegedly receiving the said bribe. Searches were conducted on Monday at eight locations in Delhi, Mumbai and Raipur.
