Defence Minister Arun Jaitley today visited forward areas in north Kashmir's Rampur sector.
Accompanied by General officer Commanding (GoC) of the Baramulla based-division, Maj Gen RP Kalita, Jaitley interacted with jawans and officers and praised their grit, determination and selfless service to the nation.
Expressing his happiness to be among the soldiers, Jaitley said that the entire country recognised the challenging circumstances that they were operating in and and that India stood behind them in all their endeavours.
He reiterated the need to maintain strict vigil at all times to thwart any nefarious designs of forces inimical to national interests.

"The aggressive domination & readiness of troops for befitting response to any misadventure by enemy is very satisfying," he said in a tweet after his visit.
Jaitley's visit to the Line of Control comes amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan. There have been a spate of ceasefire violations along the LoC recently.
Civilians on the Indian side have even been forced to evacuate their villagers and seek refuge in relief camps.
New Delhi and Islamabad are also engaged in a diplomatic face off over the Kulbhushan Jadhav death sentence, with the International Court of Justice on Thursday asking Pakistan on to execute the Indian national until the World Court can hear the matter in full and deliver a final verdict.
