The tensions between India and China are rising every passing day, but the Indian Army is standing strong. The Defence Institute of High Altitude Research in Leh has been training local farmers in producing veggies, fruits & medicinal herbs for the Indian Army. These vegetables and fruits are then supplied to the soldiers of the Indian Army in different areas. Nearly 2000 farmers are being trained every year. 50% of the total demand is being fulfiled in Leh.
Another point of focus is that the institute is now focusing on the under-ground greenhouses as well. Institute was established soon after the Indo-China war of 1962.
