Deepika Padukone Trolled for Padmavati Exposes Hypocrisy In India: Fans Suggest ‘Fair Skinned’ Indian Actresses as Rani Padmini

While the majority of people have been loving the uni-browed majestic Rani Padmini there are some who have been trolling Deepika Padukone online.

Deepika Padukone’s Padmavati look has been the talk of the town and fans cannot get over the first look of Deepika as Rani Padmini. The first look of Padmavati was released on the social media on the first day of Navratri and the pictures and posters have been going viral online. Deepika Padukone looks phenomenal as the beautiful Rani Padmini or Padmavati and her pictures have been discussed extensively in the Twitterverse. While a majority of people have been loving the uni-browed majestic Rani Padmini portrayed by Deepika, there are some who have been trolling the actress and suggesting other ‘fair skinned’ actresses for the role. Fans are suggesting Indian actresses who they feel are better suited for the role. Rani Padmini was known as the exceptionally beautiful princess and shameless online trolls have been stating that Deepika does not look majestic or beautiful in the poster. Padmavati Real Photo and Story: Who is Rani Padmini Played by Deepika Padukone?

The fans who are expressing anger and disappointment over Deepika Padukone’s Padmavati look stand as a perfect example of the hypocrisy in our country. Every time a feature film is made, there are 10000 self-proclaimed critics who begin to tear apart the movie, its characters and most importantly the look of the character. Keeping this in mind, Deepika’s look for the role of Rani Padmini resembled the paintings of Padmavati that have been preserved over time. The period drama is based on the 13th – 14th century and Deepika’s images as Rani Padmini do complete justice to the role and the pictures.

However, there have been various online trolls who questioned the choice of Deepika Padukone after looking at the first look and have been making unnecessarily rude comments like “Heard that Padmavati used to be very beautiful… phir deepika Ko kyu liya? (Then why did you take Deepika)” and have been saying that a better choice for the movie would have been Aishwarya Rai Bachchan or even Katrina Kaif. Hypocritic people have been associating the idea of beauty with the skin colour. Some of these people have photoshopped Katrina Kaif’s picture on the Padmavati poster.

So much for being Appreciative

The first mention of Rani Padmini in literature was made by Malik Muhammad Jayasi in his Awadhi language poem, Padmavat. In his work, the well-versed poet had said that Rani Padmini stood for wisdom. While Rani Padmini has been known as an extremely beautiful queen, there were no set criteria for beauty in the era that the story is based and the fact that many people fail to understand this is simply heartbreaking. As for the trolls who have been raising questions about the acting abilities of Deepika Padukone, her diverse roles in the past and award-winning performances in movies like Piku, Goliyon ki Raasleela Ramleela, Bajirao Mastani, etc. speak for themselves.

Deepika’s portrayal of Rani Padmini exudes her confidence, pride and the majestic beauty that is shown in the painting and stays true to its time with the minimal makeup and the prominent unibrow. Padmavati has shown a side of Deepika that many of her fans had never imagined and portrayed the brave queen as an example of unconventional beauty. While it is completely different from what we have earlier experienced, one cannot argue that Deepika’s look is a genuine adaptation of Rani Padimi’s original image and it is high time we appreciated the out of the box efforts.

We cannot stress enough on the fact that Deepika Padukone looks true to her character of Rani Padmini in the posters of Padmavati. There is no argument on the fact that Deepika has evolved as an actress and knows how to emote and express in a way that will instantly move our hearts. Whether it is the party animal Veronica in Cocktail, the lovestruck Mastani in Bajirao Mastani or the fearless and unstoppable Serena Unger in Hollywood’s XXX: Return of Xander Cage, Deepika has proved that she is one of the most talented actresses in the industry and we hope that the fans realise their hypocrisy and we hope with that these haters back off.
